Leather backpacks for women: marks that tell a story
Sound familiar? A plastic backpack looks pretty worn out after a year of daily use. Leather and felt are different. The leather develops more patina every day, and the felt can take a lot. Of course life leaves its marks here too. They just look like stories instead of shabby.
Five years in? We repair it, not replace it.
A customer recently wrote to us: his wife loves her HUKKEPAKK, but after more than five years of everyday use, the zipper isn't quite keeping up anymore. Could anything be done? Of course. We sewed the bag ourselves, so we can repair it too. Send the backpack to us, we take a look at it in the workshop, and off it goes for the next few years. A backpack like this shouldn't end up in the bin after a few years.
No lining, on purpose
We leave out the lining. The felt doesn't need one, and our leather looks so good on the back side that a lining would only hide its soft feel. When you reach into your backpack, you touch the material itself.
Timeless colours instead of this season's trend
Our colours are deliberately timeless. Good material doesn't go out of fashion that fast, and a backpack should make you happy for years, not just until next spring. Our customers don't follow the latest trend anyway, and neither do we.
What took us longest: the shoulder straps
Sounds unspectacular, but it was the trickiest part. Our large and small backpacks share the same strap shape, and it has to sit well on very different shoulders. We tried, adjusted and started over quite a few times before it was right. Now the straps fit narrow shoulders too.
Roll-top backpacks in small & large, duffle bags and a classic born under pressure
For a long time, our roll-top backpacks only came in large. They're great, but on many women they simply looked too bulky, and not everyone needs 25 litres. That's why there's now the small roll-top backpack in wool felt & leather and the small roll-top backpack in cowhide leather, with the same design and the same quality, in proportions made for women.
The HUKKEPAKK backpack, on the other hand, was born out of a tight spot. While scouting photo locations, we found a street art wall that was just perfect. The only problem was that we had no bag to match, and the shoot was only three days away. So we designed a women's backpack on the spot. It has been a fixture in our range ever since.
And for the gym, the pool or a day out, there's the duffle bag in felt and leather and the duffle bag in oiled and waxed suede. Both close with a drawstring rope and can be worn on your back or slung casually over one shoulder.
What if it rains while you're cycling?
Then you just keep pedalling. Wool felt contains natural wool grease, so raindrops bead up at first. A few drops won't hurt the leather either. Just don't let your backpack get soaked through. After a real downpour, stuff it with newspaper and let it dry in peace. You'll find more in our care instructions.
The "wow" delivered to your door
When someone holds one of our backpacks for the first time, we usually hear the same thing: "Wow, these are amazing." You can have that moment at home too. Pick your backpack and your colour online. We make it by hand in our workshop in Ilsfeld, and a few days later it's at your door. Then it's time to unpack, touch it and say "wow" yourself.
